Janis received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Walla Walla University, College Place, Washington, and her Masters in Nursing, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner through Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon.
Janis is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, credentialed by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, now known as, The American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Janis’ initial plans to become a nurse practitioner were delayed as a young woman when she put her plans on hold to care for her terminally ill mother. It was only after the death of her mother and birth of her three daughters, Rebekah, Rachel and Leah that Janis was able to return to school to become a nurse and nurse practitioner. She has had accumulative experience in a variety of private clinics and hospitals specializing in OBGYN, Pediatrics, Family Practice, and in the NICU at Providence Hospital and Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Since moving to Scottsdale nine years ago, she has appreciated being an integral team member at Scottsdale Center for Women’s Health and working closely with Doctors Webb and Bartels.
Janis believes that by treating each person as an individual, she is best able to help her patients seek optimal, vibrant health. She feels that the patient-provider relationship should reflect that of mutual respect and collaboration. Through this relationship, patients should be empowered to take an active role in their healthcare plans and decisions. Special interests include health promotion and disease prevention, health education, nutrition, hormone therapy, thyroid disorders and weight management. Janis is credentialed as a specialist in Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy through the Foundation for Care Management. She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease and the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and is currently on course for certification through the IFM.
Janis enjoys spending time with her husband Jon of 39 years, her children and grandchildren, friends and her special Havanese dog, Bella. She enjoys playing the piano and violin and being physically active through hiking, biking, swimming, camping and travelling.
