Some women are less than happy with their sex life due to physical issues like pain during intercourse, reduced sensation, and difficulty in reaching orgasm. Most of these symptoms seem to be consequences of vaginal damage during childbirth or vaginal changes during perimenopause/menopause. The O-Shot® for vaginal care can be extremely helpful to resolve a wide range of vaginal issues.
What Is the O-Shot®?
The O stands for “orgasm” because after receiving this treatment for vaginal care most women report dramatic improvements in pleasure during sex, find it easier to have an orgasm, and have more intense orgasms. The O-Shot® involves injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the vaginal tissues after application of a numbing cream. The entire procedure including preparation of the PRP takes less than an hour. There is no recovery period necessary after getting an O-Shot®; patients may resume regular activities immediately and may have sex within four hours of the procedure. Patients are encouraged to use an intensity pelvic floor stimulator for a few minutes twice a day for several weeks after the procedure to achieve the best results.
What Is PRP?
PRP is prepared from a patient’s own blood. A regular blood sample is taken and in the doctor’s office it is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and remove them from the formed blood cells. Platelets are key regulators of healing in the body; they release growth factors and cytokines at sites of injury and stimulate healing and rejuvenation. PRP has been used for decades in surgery, dentistry, and physical therapy to heal acute and chronic injuries. More recently, it has been found to be able to stimulate rejuvenation of tissues affected by aging, restoring them to a more youthful state of function.
The PRP induces the vaginal tissues to heal and rejuvenate, which can repair childbirth injuries and reverse changes induced by menopause. Women report producing more lubrication and finding their vagina is more elastic. Women also report experiencing more pleasure from both vaginal and clitoral stimulation. A side benefit many women experience from the O-Shot® is decreased urine leakage while laughing or sneezing, and some cases of overactive bladder completely resolve after getting an O-Shot®.
Is It Permanent?
Because PRP induces the body’s tissues to heal naturally, results are not usually experienced immediately after getting an O-Shot®; most women notice improvements a week or so later and these changes continue to improve until reaching a peak around three or four months after the O-Shot®. Usually, a maintenance O-Shot® is required every year in order to retain the desired results.
