Endometrial ablation

Endometrial ablation is a procedure used to treat abnormal bleeding of the uterine lining. A probe is inserted through the vagina and cervix which uses radiofrequency energy, microwave energy, or extreme heat or cold to destroy (ablate) the endometrial tissue.

The goal is to remove as much of the endometrium as possible. After endometrial ablation, menstrual flow will be greatly reduced or may stop entirely. Endometrial ablation is not appropriate for women wishing to have future children.
